For many years, personality disorders – and Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) in particular – were considered difficult to treat and associated with a poor prognosis. Today we know that, with a specialised, structured and integrated approach, it is possible to bring about profound and lasting change.

Diamantes en Bruto II Program (DB-II) is a psychoeducational and therapeutic intervention designed specifically for people with emotional instability. Its aim is not merely to provide information, but to offer understanding, practical tools and a structured framework that enables distress to be transformed into personal growth.

DIAMANTES EN BRUTO

Structure and flexibility

The programme is organised into 32 sessions spread across 9 thematic blocks, which address key areas of the therapeutic process such as:

  • Self-care and self-destructive behaviours.

  • Psychological defences.

  • Boundaries and interpersonal relationships.

  • Identity and differentiation.

  • Emotional regulation.

  • Relapse prevention.

This structured approach allows the patient to gradually assimilate and integrate adaptive information, promoting stable changes in their quality of life.

Each session combines psychoeducational material (information to help understand what is happening) with practical exercises and personal reflection (to learn how to manage it). This balance between theory and practice helps the individual not only to understand their difficulties, but also to acquire specific resources to manage them.

Although the programme follows a structured sequence, it is adapted to individual needs.

A safe environment for growth

Our team of professionals places particular emphasis on building a strong therapeutic alliance and creating a safe, structured and supportive environment. This is essential to enable the individual to explore their difficulties without fear of judgement and to develop new ways of relating to themselves and others.

Beyond information: understanding and change

The philosophy of the DB-II programme is based on a central idea: understanding is the first step towards change. When a person understands why they feel the way they do, how their difficulties arise and what factors perpetuate them, they can begin to replace impulsive or destructive responses with healthier alternatives.

Psychoeducation, training in emotional regulation and the implementation of alternatives are fundamental pillars of the process. This approach enables:

  • A reduction in self-destructive behaviours.

  • The replacement of impulsive and destructive responses with more adaptive alternatives.

  • Improved emotional management.

  • A reduction in ‘all-or-nothing’ polarised thinking.

  • Increase reflective capacity.

  • Strengthen identity and autonomy.

  • Provide specific psychoeducation on the problematic areas of BPD, strengthening emotional and practical resources.

  • Promote the resolution of interpersonal and emotional conflicts.

The methodology combines psychoeducational material with written or verbal reflection, allowing it to be adapted to individual characteristics and preferences, maximising its effectiveness and fostering personal development.

It can be delivered on a weekly or fortnightly basis, tailored to each person’s needs.

Results observed

Over more than 20 years of clinical practice, we have observed that the programme promotes:

  • A greater understanding of one’s own problems and their origins.

  • A significant reduction in impulsive and destructive behaviours.

  • An improvement in emotional awareness and expression.

  • An increased sense of personal control.

  • A reduction in emotional dependency.

The ultimate aim is to facilitate profound and sustainable change, promoting a more balanced, mindful and fulfilling life.
