Our History

Intra-TP began as a center specializing in personality disorders. Over the years, our clinical experience led us to delve deeper and deeper into the study and treatment of psychological trauma, particularly complex trauma and dissociative dynamics.

Today, we are a team with diverse and complementary training, working in a coordinated manner to address emotional and relational difficulties in childhood, adolescence, and adulthood.

HOW DID INTRA-TP BEGIN?

Intra-TP was founded in the early 2000s as a clinical project specializing in interventions for individuals with personality disorders and their families. The first steps were taken at the LOGPSIC Center in Sada (A Coruña), where work began focused on emotional regulation, self-harm management, psychoeducation, and the development of safety plans for patients at risk of suicide.

From the outset, clinical intervention was accompanied by outreach and educational efforts, including the creation of materials in Spanish aimed at patients, families, and professionals, as well as the organization of conferences and specific training activities. Gradually, various outreach efforts were undertaken: a website featuring Spanish translations of articles where information was shared with patients and their loved ones, participation in the First Conference on Borderline Personality Disorder in 2001 and the Second Galician Conference of Family Therapists, the Spanish translation of the first book for family members, Deja de Andar sobre Cáscaras de Huevo, and the first publications of the Diamantes en Bruto (Raw Diamonds) books (Volumes I and II).

In 2004, the team was consolidated and the center opened in A Coruña, gradually evolving into what is now INTRA-TP. The team’s growth was not planned as a business expansion, but rather as a response to the complexity of the cases being treated and the need to provide a more solid structure, clinical supervision, and coordinated work.

At this point, the team expanded to five psychologists, three of whom were systemic therapists, as ongoing clinical experience showed that family members often felt frustrated, overwhelmed, desperate, blamed, and ignored.

Over time, the intervention shifted from individual therapy to family and group therapy, collaborating with professionals from other centers and associations.

In 2006, the team expanded to include seven psychologists, while retaining the three systemic therapists, and began to increase its collaboration with other organizations, incorporating multifamily work. In 2008, a social worker joined the team, and student rotations began for those in training as PIRs or MIRs.

In 2012, collaborations began with psychology departments, allowing students to participate in one-way mirror observation, co-therapy, and supervision. By 2014, the team consisted of 9 psychologists (4 of whom were systemic), 1 social worker, and 1 psychiatrist.

Clinical experience showed that many patients with personality disorders had histories of early trauma, attachment difficulties, and dissociative symptoms that required a deeper understanding and a specific approach. This led to expanding the center’s specialization toward the treatment of complex trauma and dissociative disorders, integrating evidence-based models and developing a structured approach tailored to highly complex cases.

Currently, INTRA-TP consists of a multidisciplinary team of professionals with diverse specializations and experience across all stages of the life cycle. This diversity enables us to address a wide range of psychological challenges from an integrated and coordinated perspective.
